At once subtle and elegant, sultry and soulful, Gail Pettis’ rich, warm vocals and understated phrasing have inspired comparisons to Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae. The Seattle-based vocalist shines on her debut recording, offering very personal interpretations of standards such as “Black Coffee,” “Moonlight in Vermont,” “A Certain Smile” and the title track.
